A day in Paris

We slept in fits and starts, but eventually got a reasonable amount of sleep. The room temperature was very good and the bed comfy. We got up just after 8 and both had showers before venturing out for breakfast. We found a boulangerie, where we had some delicious patries. Ian had a croissant and a pain au raisin, while I had a chia pudding and a chocolate brioche. Definitely not our usual breakfasts! We bought a baguette and on the way back to the hotel we got some cheese, ham and tomatoes from a little supermarket to have for lunch.

We had planned to visit Napoleon’s tomb, but found that it was a whole big museum, which we didn’t really feel like doing, so we took three metro train rides to walk part of the Coulee Verte. Turned out to be a cloudy and drizzly morning, so we didn’t spend too long on the walk,  The station we started from was towards one end and we walked that.

We then decided to head back and see how the Notre Dame was looking. During out last visit to Paris we stayed literally across the road from the cathedral and we were devastated to hear of the fire there almost a year to the day later. Certainly lots of work going on, and the building offices have taken over the lovely park at the eastern end of the cathedral where we loved to eat lunch. But there is a tiny park right at the end of the island, so we stopped there and ate our lunch.

We walked back to our hotel for a rest. Had a general walk around in the afternoon, including a stop to have a cuppa.

We had dinner at a nearby restaurant, Le Cafe Parisien. We shared two entrees: pork terrine and a delicious goats cheese salad. For mains we both had bavette, flank steak which we found to be a bit tough. A couple of beers and a bottle of Bordeaux to wash it all down and we were done.

We headed back for bed by about 10.
