Cadiz and Flamenco

We docked early in Cadiz. We had a light breakfast in our suite and met our tour at 10:15.

Our tour was “Scenic Cadiz and Flamenco”. We had a one hour bus ride around Cadiz, which included the main landmarks and history of the city. The bus returned to near the ship and we proceeded on foot. We walked past the monument celebrating the signing of the Spanish constitution in 1812. The monument was erected in 1912 and is very ornate and significant. In 2012 they celebrated 200 years and erected a modern monument that the locals call WTF!

The 1912 monument - very grand!

We walked on to a little flamenco club called La Cava, where we were treated to a couple of drinks, some tapas and the most incredible flamenco show. We were seated right beside the stage and were able to experience the passion and skill of a guitarist, singer and two amazing dancers. We loved the show!

OLE!

After the flamenco show we chose to have a wander around town by ourselves. We went into a cathedral and generally walked around. We had lunch at a little cafe and then walked back to the ship.

We went to Bingo and Trivia in the Panorama Lounge. Ian won 5 prize points in the first bingo game. Then we joined some people for trivia, team Merrylands. We didn’t do any good though.

We went to a special flamenco show in the Venetian Lounge at 6:30. It included the same two dancers and guitarist from this morning’s show. There was a percussionist, a different singer and three other women. It was a very flashy show, probably more technical, with lots of costume changes and use of things like shawls, fans and castanets. We preferred this morning’s show though.

For dinner we went to Altantide, the main dining room. Ian had Australian king prawns, while I had black cod. I also had some icecream. We headed off for bed at about 10:30.
