To Marseille

We had a relatively quiet start to the day, packing and checking out at about 10:30. I was feeling much better.

The little courtyard outside the apartment, where we had dinner last night, changes as there is a food bank or similar operating out of the back of the church each morning, so a queue of refugees and others sets up. In the meantime, the restaurant starts to prepare for their lunch trade.

We stopped for a coffee / water break on the way to the station and caught the train to Marseille just before midday. We arrived on time at 1:20 and had a sandwich lunch at one of the station cafes. We then checked into the Holiday Inn Express across the road for the night.

We headed out at about 6 for a drink and dinner. Lots of people from the UK around, especially groups of men. Turns out the Rugby World Cup is being played here in Marseille and two of the quarter finals are being played this weekend.

We found a place to eat, opposite Le Grand Escalier, or the Saint Charles staircase.

The Saint Charles staircase which has 104
steps, compared to the Spanish Steps in Rome
which has 135 steps!

Ian had a burger while I had lasagne - not many French options available for our final night in France! We headed back to our room and to bed by about 10.
