To Nice

We were up and ready in time for our departure at 8:30 am. We had a train to catch from Arras at 10. Diane and Peter were off to Paphos in Cyprus to celebrate Diane’s 60th and while their train to Orly was not until the afternoon, it made sense for us to all go together. We really had a wonderful time in Boufflers, experiencing an incredible house and amazing hosts.

We were really happy to take a direct train to Charles De Gaulle airport from Arras, rather than having to go back into Paris and change trains. But it did get us there quite early, so we had some lunch (filled baguettes) and sat around. Our 3:05 pm flight to Nice was delayed and we didn’t take off until we’ll after 4, but we landed safely and, after collecting our luggage (another wait!), we took a taxi to our AirBNB apartment.

It is a very nice place with cool marble floors and lots of “period” furniture - it is probably fake. I do like the Art Deco lift though!

We went to a convenience store around the corner for some breakfast supplies and washing powder (there wasn’t any in the apartment) and then put on a load of washing before heading out to dinner. It was quite warm, 24C, and it had been a tiring day, so we found a nearby restaurant and had a beer to relax. The owner was getting a little antsy as his license doesn’t allow only drinking and he wanted to make sure we ordered food. So we ordered and had a really nice meal - Ian had pastrami and caramelised onion, which came out as a toasted sandwich, but was really nice, then he had a slow cooked pork dish. I had a “perfect egg” with leek fondue and truffle and gnocchi with beef stewed in red wine. All fabulous!

It had been a pretty big day so we both headed off to bed at about 10.
